Adolescents are experts at engaging adults in power struggles. It's part of their nature.
As an adult and a parent, you can avoid the struggle by not allowing your teen to engage you in the first place.
We do this by trying the one-down position and simply responding to the first opportunity with an agreeing comeback such as,
"Well, you're probably right and I'm just old fashioned. I'll bet it's really frustrating to not be in charge."
