For most teens, this is the back to school month. You can help your teen get off to a good start by being involved from the very first day. It is amazing how many parents have no idea what their kid's class schedule is or what courses are likely to be difficult or what the extra-curricula activities schedule will be.
Make it a point to find these things out. If you have a teen that doesn't like to communicate with you about these things, find out how to get the information directly from the school. Often today, teachers are posting grades and other information online and it's very easy for a busy working parent to keep up with what's happening.
It's my experience that parents who stay involved are more likely to have teens that stay on track . Even if your teen doesn't like to talk, they want to know you care. Don't expect them to say so. Instead expect them to protest your involvement and teach them that you are less likely to bother them about it when they volunteer the information first.
