Acknowledgements and Appreciation for Our Mentors and Friends

December, 2006

by Shannon K. Spellman, M.S.W.

During this holiday season, consider it an opportunity to teach the value of service as a way of giving gifts rather than focusing on what your kids want for themselves.

Perhaps making a one day volunteering activity a requirement to earn a desired privilege could be an incentive as well as a learning experience for your teen.

Service is not a
typical teen idea as they are once again self-centered during adolescence, and
if you don't require it, they are not likely do it on their own.
