Happy New Year!!!!
This is always a great month for developing challenges with your adolescents. Rather than New Year's Resolutions which so often get broken before the end of the month, why not do a New Year's Challenge for everyone in the family. Make it such that it's a win-win situation no matter what but that the person that achieves his/her goal the fastest wins more.
The winnings can be as complex as individualized wish lists, a monetary "kitty" that everyone contributes to, or as simple as coupons for labor that can be cashed in (Mom has to do the dishes on the kid's night because he won) or something.
Adolescents love challenges and are much more likely to work towards a goal if it's a contest with a reward than just a parent's nice idea. Besides, it will challenge you to achieve your own and it's fine if you win the prize!
