With the Presidential elections approaching, this is a perfect opportunity to involve your adolescents in political debates at home and challenge them to develop and defend their own viewpoints.
Adolescents are often born debaters and it is important to help them learn to back up their position with factual information they have discovered on their own to support the causes or candidates they believe in.
One of the best things a parent of an adolescent can do is to welcome opinions that may be different from their own so that their adolescents can work towards accomplishing the task of adolescence that basically involves that of becoming an individual, growing up and separating from their parents.
