During adolescence, self-esteem can be a fragile and fleeting quality. While peer influences are especially powerful, it is equally important that teens can watch parents who model their own self-esteem by setting
boundaries and celebrating successes. Never doubt the power of your own demonstration, or of your words of praise for a job well done. However, it is not typically useful to point out the modeling or your attempts to instill positive messages to your teenager, as you then lose the affect by giving them one more thing to resist. It is, instead, most useful to find that delicate balance of being a role model without being caught.
